步行指南 2018 | China | 77 min Synopsis: "Sleepwalking Through The Walk Simulators" is the first feature-length animation made by Xi Chen. It's a road trip movie about affection and memories. Either producing events or walking into the life cycle of the others, the characters speak to their own narrative tale under this beyond-event structural framework. This 77 minute long film depicts a continuous landscape in which its spatial design forms the film’s narrative structure. Circulating on the themes of trauma, violence, companionship, impermanence, and sympathy, Chen Xi uses his mega-narrative tale to construct layers of events, allowing viewers to form a multitude of modes of viewing experiences and interpretations inside this asymmetry of information. "短いシークエンスが連なるオムニバスのような映像の中で、美少女？ロボット？動物？異星人？たちが撃ったり撃たれたり破壊したり破壊されたりしていた。宇宙船なのか未来なのか異星なのかわからない舞台も、荒唐無稽で不条理で、驚きの連続だった。
《Sleepwalking Through The Walk Simulators: 歩行指南》の一コマ。色や造形が魅力的なのは本当にそうなのだけれど、動きがリアルで引き込まれる（たぶん「リアル」というのは、自分がよく知っている地球上の人間や他の生き物の動きを想起させる、ということだと思う）。この動きはもう快楽的と言ってもいい。あとカメラワーク。複数のものが同時進行で気になる動きをしている中、視点が絶妙なルートを通って、展開する場面をこれ以上ないほど完璧にフレームへおさめていく。"
